As things stand, the top four teams in Serie A at the end of the season will be qualified for the Champions League. However, due to the success in Europe, this could change even if the scenario is remote.
As highlighted by Calcio e Finanza, the UEFA rules stipulate that a federation can send a maximum of five teams to the Champions League. While that remains true, there is one scenario that could remove UCL qualification for the fourth spot.
If Milan or Inter were to win the Champions League, as well as finish outside of the top four, while Roma or Juventus were to win Europa League and finish outside of the top four as well, then only the top three in the Serie A standings will get UCL.
That is, of course, because winning the Champions League and Europa League guarantees a spot in the next edition of the Champions League. In short, two spots would be occupied, leaving just three for the standings amid the max-five teams rule. The fourth spot would thus be Europa League instead.
It’s a remote scenario, one should add, but it’s not impossible either. If Milan were to win the UCL they wouldn’t have to worry about finishing outside of top four anyway.

With this kind of atitude and mentality Milan does not deserve Champions league football. 2023 and Milan are in total meltdown, nothing seems to function with the current scheme.
