GdS: ‘Everyone is crazy about Retegui’ – Milan interested but want to avoid auction

By Oliver Fisher -

Mateo Retegui’s performances for club and country have attracted the interest of a number of top Serie A clubs, with AC Milan among them.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below), Tigre and Boca Juniors are co-owners of a player whose value has now skyrocketed as he is now worth €15-20m, but accurately predicting his true asking price ahead of the summer is ‘like thinking about stopping a moving car’.

Tigre will buy 50% of the striker for €2.1m and then the plan is to wait for the bids to come in, with Inter leading the race as they have spoken to his family and have watched him in South America for some time now.

The idea of the Nerazzurri is to sign him to take the place of Joaquin Correa but that was when his price was a bit lower, so it remains to be seen if the Nerazzurri’s plans remain intact given their financial problems.

Milan are admirers of Retegui too having also scouted him, and they seem ready to refresh the attack given that Divock Origi has disappointed thus far, Ante Rebic is leaving, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a separate chapter and Olivier Giroud will turn 37 this year.

This is why including Retegui in the squad would be ideal for Stefano Pioli, but the Rossoneri are not willing to participate in auctions.

  1. Yeah every player has a auction, at least every good player but that clown Cardinale won’t understand, the only thing he cares about is the stadium and money, that’s the only thing why he bought Milan for. Didn’t even know how much CL’s we had, doesn’t go to the Supercoppa final and just stays working.

    1. Wait, you hating on the owner because he’s working on getting us a new stadium 😂😂😂😂😳🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣wow this is incredible. You don’t like that he doesn’t come to see some games? Is that really a requirement to be an effective owner? The things I read here smh.

This article is about retegui. He scored one goal for Italy, his price has skyrocketed. So goes football. What we need to focus on is signing the next best forward before they become the hottest property on the market. Ret is too far gone now

    2. He is a businessman. That’s to be expected, after all his workplace and home is in US and not in Milano.

A good owner didn’t need to attend all matches – as long as he got the new stadium done and keep Milan competitive for the duration of construction it’s good.

Retegui seems a good prospect but we need to put it in perspective – he played against two semi-pro players filled nations that regularly become goals target for the better national teams – the early sign is good but he is not a guaranteed success at Serie A.

If you ask me Piatek seemed far more promising prior to his move than Retegui – but what he became was clear for all of us.

    3. Well… WIth money comes more money. And with money, you can get quality players. I agree with him that the stadium is and should be the 1st priority here. That’s crucial to get funds for quality players instead of wasting the cents we have on players such as Origi.
