CM: Pressure mounts on Pioli after disastrous 2023 and tactical involution

By Oliver Fisher -

Another report has surfaced suggesting that Stefano Pioli’s position will be under review if AC Milan’s struggles continue after a difficult start to 2023.

As Calciomercato.com report, Milan have nine points less than they did after 27 games last season which is a huge drop off, while there seems to have been a tactical involution and the main protagonists like Rafael Leao continue to struggle.

Milan’s 2023 so far reads 4 victories with an average of 1.09 points per game and 15 less points accrued than the leaders Napoli, but deeper than that it tells to story of uncertainty regarding the system and the minimum objective of fourth place being seriously at risk.

The switch to the three-man defence worked for a few games but now is not producing results but on the contrary against opponents of lesser technical caliber it seems to penalise Milan.

The report adds how the Milan management were convinced that they had found the ideal leader in Pioli who could create a winning cycle for years to come, so much so that they offered him a contract renewal until 2025 which was signed.

There is still confidence in the work of the former Lazio and Fiorentina boss but qualification for the 2023-24 edition of the Champions League is simply vital for the club’s project. Failure to achieve it could force reflections from above.
