Star striker prepares to leave for England – the latest on Milan Women

By Steph Insixiengmay -

The Serie A Femminile season is over and AC Milan Women finished the season in third place. While third place is respectable, they still fell short of their goal of winning a trophy and qualifying for the Champions League.

And while many of the team’s players are internationals who are preparing for the upcoming Women’s World Cup, the team is busy overhauling the squad for next season. Here is the relevant news you need to know about Milan’s postseason activity.

Two Milan players that might leave are Martina Piemonte and Lindsey Thomas. According to Sempre Milan’s Luca Maninetti, Piemonte will leave the team to play abroad. The forward’s most likely destination is England. Thomas, on the other hand, will reportedly leave for Juve. This has been confirmed by both Maninetti and Juve’s best writers.

As a result of the departure of the two forwards, Milan are working to find replacements. No names have been given yet but one of them might be Adriana Leon, who the Rossonere tried to acquire in January. Leon is currently on loan to the Portland Thorns in the United States and will play for Canada at the upcoming Women’s World Cup.

Another name that could be of interest to Milan is Danish forward, Signe Bruun. The Danish international is set to leave her current team, Olympique Lyonnais, this summer. There are a few teams that are interested in her, including a few teams from Italy. Le Diavole might face stiff competition from abroad though, including from Real Madrid, who are said to be negotiating for the player.

Tutto Calcio Femminile reports that the Rossonere might bring back forward Miriam Longo to replace the departing Thomas. Longo currently plays for Fiorentina and La Viola are evaluating whether to make her loan permanent by outright purchasing her.

Rossonere defender, Malgorzata Mesjasz, recently underwent surgery for a hip problem. The player underwent an operation for a bilateral hip arthroplasty. The defender is currently in the process of recuperating but no timeframe has been given for her full recovery.
