CorSport: Tonali rediscovers form with Italy during the break – a positive sign for Pioli

By Oliver Fisher -

Sandro Tonali is one of the AC Milan players who has benefitted from the international break the most as he found form again with Italy in their win over Malta.

Today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) talks about Tonali who played in the last two matches for Italy. Against England he came on during the second half and made an excellent impression, then he started in the following match against Malta and had a hand in both goals.

He provided the assist from a corner kick for Mateo Retegui’s opening goal and he deflected Emerson’s cross which was then put into the net by Pessina, giving him a half assist if you will.

This is a good sign for Stefano Pioli, who will rely on Tonali and his midfield partner Ismael Bennacer who in the season finale which will be crucial for Milan. The Rossoneri will fight to get as far as they can in the Champions League and secure a place in the top four of Serie A.

As he did in the second half of last season, Tonali will try to put his stamp on games with important contributions, while the return to a four-man defence could help him regain some familiarity too.
