Milan Primavera 3-2 Empoli: Second-half turnaround secures important win

AC Milan’s Primavera side came away with all three points from today’s clash against Empoli, coming back from 2-1 behind in the second half. An important win for Ignazio Abate’s boys, especially after the disappointing defeat to Sampdoria.

The Rossoneri have certainly had some struggles in the second half of this season, losing their position at the top of the standings. On the other hand, they are in the UEFA Youth League semi-finals and many believe that they could win the tournament.

This morning, Abate’s boys took on Empoli at Vismara and managed to clinch all three points. The game started well for the home side with a great goal from Emanuele Sala, scoring with a backheel after a great cross by Clinton Nsiala.

However, Empoli managed to equalise just before the break from a corner. It had been coming at that point, as the away side missed a penalty (hitting the crossbar) just a few minutes before. It got worse at the start of the second, as sloppy defending allowed Empoli to convert a rebound.

Fortunately, Milan only needed a few minutes to equalise through the star Diego Sia. He picked up the ball on the edge of the box and used his skill to create the space. A great finish too, leaving the goalkeeper no chance.

In the 67th minute, Mattia Liberali completed the turnaround thanks to a loose ball in the penalty box. After that, Milan continued to play well and were awarded a penalty in the final minute of injury time, but Davide Bartesaghi saw his effort saved.

The game thus ended 3-2 and it was an important comeback for Abate’s boys, as we have seen so many times this season.
