CM: De Zerbi waiting for the right opportunity – the truth about Milan links

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan will move forward next season with a new head coach at the helm, and a name who has been linked with the role of replacing Stefano Pioli is Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi. Today, a report has offered some insight into the current situation concerning the links.

This season has been a difficult one for all parties attached to Milan. Several targets have not been met, and even when the current side has been given new chances – look to the Europa League – they have failed to accomplish the tasks required for revival.

Therefore, the only option now is to make changes. Following the losses against AS Roma, reports suggested that Gerry Cardinale was ready to decide to move forward without Pioli at the helm, and Monday’s loss to Inter only further confirmed that this decision was going to happen.

Names, of course, have been swirling for several months, and one of the names attached to the soon-to-be vacant post is Roberto De Zerbi, who has been touted for a move away from the seaside after the season’s conclusion.

Many sides are interested in the Italian manager after his consistently good performances with Brighton, with last season remaining fresh in the memory due to his achievement of taking the Seagulls to the Europa League.

As Calciomercato.com reports, interest is high across Europe and in his home country. Currently, though, no contact is being made by any club interested in his services. It is believed it would take €15 million to bring him away from Brighton, and the Rossoneri remain interested. However, they may pursue other options.

What matters is that De Zerbi is happy with his current situation. He is not in a rush to sign an extension with his current club – his current contract ends in 2026. Likewise, he is not rushing to leave, as the right opportunity to leave must present itself.

  1. It could be great timing to bring him as he has experience in Italy and abroad, but still young. He’s has great football mind and last but not least – he’s Milanista!

    1. I will not argue with appointing De Zerbi he has proven his knowledge and intelligence for the game with various clubs

De Zerbi brings more than just knowledge, he bring and understanding of Milanista ways and the steel to make a Milan club great!

He ha not resigned with Brighton because he is waiting to come home to Milan and commence the rescue of the Rosso Neri!
      Sign Him Now!
Stop the sufferance of being second to Inter every season please.

  2. All day long. This is name I’ve been dreaming of for the past 18months.

We should make this happen, and reassure RdZ that Our project is the one he wants to lead.

    1. There are ways around it. If he expresses a desire to leave, I doubt Brighton would keep him against his will. They might not release him form free, but the clause may be negotiable, say down to 10M or even half. So if De Zerbi isn’t pressing to be allowed to talk to Milan, it means he’s not that interested. That is not a good sign for us.

  3. Our best signing of the season would be a good coach.

15m is not too much for the situation we find ourselves, however, we should try to negotiate the clause, ultimately, De Zerbi is a must have.

His decline in form is a blessing in disguise and we must take full advantage of it.
