CM: Developments arrive in Milan’s pursuit of Adams and Guirassy

By Oliver Fisher -

There is no shortage of ideas among the AC Milan management who want to try to strengthen a squad constantly put in difficulty by their consistent injury problems.

According to Calciomercato.com, Milan intend to bolster the defence by making at least one addition or possible more in January and next summer, but Geoffrey Moncada and his team also continue to work on the idea of signing a striker.

The talks with Montpellier for the Nigerian centre-forward Akor Adams have not brought the desired results because the French club want to keep hold of him at least until the end of the current season, so that track has cooled.

There is a name on which Milan are working more decisively in recent weeks and that is Serhou Guirassy. The Guinean striker has 16 Bundesliga goals, putting him second only to Harry Kane in the scoring table in Europe’s ‘top five’ leagues.

In recent days Stuttgart tried to remove the €17m which will be active in January but the player did not accept. Antonio D’Ottavio and Moncada are in contact with his agents to try to find an economic agreement on the salary but there is the risk of participating in an auction considering that Newcastle, Manchester United and now also Borussia Dortmund are keen.

Jonathan David remains in orbit but more for June because to convince Lille they need to offer €40m in order to convince them to sell next month. Armando Broja of Chelsea, who was followed last summer, is not a target contrary to reports in England.

  1. We are looking at these players because we have depth issues, and yet both could potentially be off to the AFCON come January. Doesn’t make sense. The answer is simple: bring back Colombo and Gabbia.

    1. @Vero. Colombo is not good enough mate. Calm down. Milan need a more experienced striker.

I agree with you that it’s not smart for Milan to make a move for Adams and Guirassy due to their AFCON obligstions.

In my opinion, Milan should rather take Beto on loan with an option to buy and then make a 35-40m investment on Jonathan David or Plavidis in the summer.

Beto is not getting much playing time at Everton and he is experienced in Serie A so he will fit right in where as the other players we are link with has never played in Serie A.

As for Gabbia, we will need him back but we still need another CB. Pellegrini is not ready for first team football and I think it was a waste of money to sign him.

Milan should do everything possible to sign Jakub Kiwior because he also has serie an experience and he’s left footed and he would fit right in and settle quickly.

      1. I’m not saying Colombo or Gabbia are the ultimate long-term answers in their respective positions. I’m sorry I didn’t make that clear. My thoughts are that this would be the solution to get through the rest of the current season. Then in the summer the club can evaluate more calmly, and with more options on the table, since clubs won’t sell their players in January unless they have no choice (release clause) or the money being offered is well over valuation. This way we avoid overpaying or being forced into jumping on players who won’t be much help anyway because they’re not going to be available to 1/3 of the second half of the season.

    2. We can make do with Giroud, Jovic and Okafor just for the month of January if it means getting a striker as good as Guirassy for the rest of the season (and beyond). Especially considering his transfer fee will be so cheap.

  2. He’s not a real target, just media links. As everyone has pointed out he doesn’t solve any of the problems definitively, with Jovic finally showing some form and other holes to fill no way. Let Chelsea or whoever buy him so he can be a bench ornament for them rather than us.
