CM.it: Monza aiming to make Daniel Maldini’s loan permanent – the details

By Ben Dixon -

Daniel Maldini is enjoying his second loan spell of the season at Monza, and today, a report has suggested that the Biancorossi will attempt to convince AC Milan to sell him to them this summer.

The first half of this season was disappointing for Maldini. An injury halted his season, which made his game time limited during his spell at Empoli. However, Monza believed in the youngster and made a move to take over his loan deal in the January mercato, and Milan obliged.

Since then, the 22-year-old has shown his quality, scoring four goals and assisting another in 12 games for the Brianza so far. Calciomercato.it have reported that the club are interested in bringing him to the club permanently this summer.

The original loan deal had no buy-clause, so it will not be a case of activating that, which the Rossoneri may be grateful for, given his impressive performances. However, Monza will still attempt to make a deal possible for him.

The report suggests that Milan values Maldini at a price of more than €5 million, but with his contract expiring in the summer of 2025, there could be some movement on that figure to ensure he does not leave for nothing next summer.

  1. It would simply better to extend his contract and integrate him into the squad, he is ready….and he is the kind of player we need, someone who will give all to the team and the club..

  2. For a start, it’s not 4 goals and 1 assist in 12 games. That suggests that Maldini is playing 60 to 90 minutes which would give him 720 to 1,080 minutes of game time (excluding stoppage time).

He has 5 contributions from 304 minutes (excluding stoppage time).

Look at the quality of the goals. 1 cracking free kick and 2 very well taken edge of the penalty box strikes. He completely changed the game once he came on v Atalanta and missed tying it by a few mm (with another great strike from about the same spot).

He is so obviously a Milan quality player. But this is what happens when you sit even the biggest talents on the bench for 2 to 3 years out of the academy. People need to be less emotional and more objective about Camarda’s situation. I have no insight into his thinking or that of anyone else in his entourage but the simple reality is that Milan can’t progress players from its academy into its first team. Does Camarda tread down Maldini’s path or does he just go to Dortmund, for example, who turns him into 100,000,000 Euro 20 to 21 year old? At this point in his career he is no more or less certain than Halland and Bellingham were.

According to Google, the opposite of a symbiotic relationship is amensalism. That is what the relationship to Milan has become for Maldini when it should be the opposite. It’s extremely sad and frustrating.

I’d love nothing more than for Maldini to take his rightful place as the 10 at Milan, but Milan has already stunted his development, and it does not seem he would ever get the opportunity. It is clearly best for Maldini to move on.

This scenario is a summary of almost everything that is wrong with Milan’s current approach, Italian youth development and the game generally.

    1. Well said, I agree and feel that he has far more potential than RLC at this point. The management may not want to keep him due to politics, which would be a mistake, because like Reccaman wrote, it is not worth it to sell him for five million. I say bring them all back: Colombo, Maldini, and CDK, buy Zirkzee and see what happens. Can’t be any worse than the past three games where we put a 21-year-old in charge of our offence in the three most important games of the season.

  3. If the new coach play 4231 or 352 better use him in senior squad . His father can teach him how to defend while daniel already have talent for atacking, long shot, free kick . He will be balance midfielder. Sell him 5m euro not worth , you cannot get any foreign player with that few money. Daniel can also occupy homegrown slot

    1. Monza is hardly our rival.

And most of the players that left us for being ‘not good enough’ started to shine after 2-3 years. That’s enough time for young players to mature. So it’s not as black and white as obsolete but good enough for our rival.

And many also obsolete for other team but good enough for us – like Kjaer. Chelsea rejects. Pirlo. Cafu. Thiago Silva. Etc.

  4. There was a time when many Milan players (incl Leao if I’m not mistaken) answered Daniel when they asked about the most talented player in the team. So yes, the talent is there. Just need the right environment and someone who can bring out the best in him.

  5. We better not sell him unless we have a fairly low buyback clause and a high resale %. I’ll be furious if Maldini reaches his full potential at a different club than milan while just having to sit and not be able to do anything. A full year with them could be beneficial but i wouldnt mind keeping him next season either while renewing his contract.
He has been remarkable for monza since he joined them on loan.
