CM: Milan expecting to boost summer transfer kitty with €40m of sales

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan management are planning for the future but they must always keep a close eye on the accounts and what they are permitted to spend. What could help this is the proceeds from some sales.

Calciomercato.com report that in the summer Milan will continue the process of refreshing the squad that began last summer with the arrival of important players such as Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christian Pulisic, Yunus Musah and Samuel Chukwueze.

However, they will not ‘bite off more than they can chew’. The elimination from the Champions League at the group stage has significantly reduced income, while another Tonali-level sale is something that cannot be budgeted for at the moment.

The January window sent a strong and clear signal: Milan will not just buy players for the sake of it. Each purchase is the result of careful, sporting and above all economic analysis, as Giorgio Furlani also made clear last night.

“We always said that we wouldn’t buy just for the sake of it, the players are there, the emergency is over. Buying for the sake of buying was to please the crowd but not a real necessity,” he said.

Milan’s idea is to raise cash from the sales of players who have left on loan formulas, such as Charles De Ketelaere who is doing great things with Atalanta and should bring in a further €23m.

Alexis Saelemaekers is at Bologna and they can buy him for €9-10m, then Divock Origi is having difficulties in the Premier League with Nottingham Forest but the MLS market opened up for him.

Junior Messias has joined Genoa permanently mid-season for a few million, and the feeling is that all the situations can bring around €40m to invest in the summer window.

  1. Throw in some other dead weight like Colombo , Daniel M, Ballo Toure, maybe Florenzi and Pobega, you might scrape another 20 mil.
Plus 10 mil from Chaka Traore.
Some of those players can also be used as counterparts for Boungiorno and Zirkzee.

      1. It’s out of our hands. Palermo has an option to buy, and they’re owned by City Group. It’s already likely he’ll stay there if he performs well. If he performs well AND they get promoted (looking likelier by the week) then I think it’s almost certain he’ll stay.

  2. No one would pay anything for Florenzi. Probably the same applies to Ballo Toure. Milan have had to let go far better players for free than Ballo Toure because NO ONE would have paid for them.

  3. Somehow I have no confidence in the information that Bologna will give 10 million for Saelemaekers ! I don’t know what about the sale of Krunić and I think we have some other players that count on as a possible profit, but somehow everything always fails and we get crumbs !

  4. Get Zirkzee, swap Pobega for Ricci (CM for DM), get Baldanzi and maybe Kiwor plus one more DM talent. That would be a good summer market for me.

  5. Assuming these number are correct, then it can fund most of the cost for Zirkzee or Sesko (50m release clause). It will still leave another 30-40m from the “regular” transfer funds to spend on what will probably be Buongiorno, but maybe should be a CDM.
