CM: Milan probe two alternatives while waiting for signals from Conceicao

By Oliver Fisher -

The question of who will be the next head coach of AC Milan continues to dominate the headlines that surround the club, and more updates have arrived this evening.

According to Calciomercato.com, Milan are expected news from Jorge Mendes’ camp either tonight or tomorrow regarding Sergio Conceiçao. The Porto coach is expected to meet face to face with the new president Andrè Villas Boas to clarify the club’s plans.

In the event that they decide a separation is best, Conceiçao would activate a clause to get out of his contract which he recently renewed until 2028, believing that Pinto Da Costa would remain as the president.

Giorgio Furlani, the main supporter of this candidacy, is waiting for news before starting a concrete negotiation which will have to involve various aspects, from the economic one (salary) to the planning of the summer mercato.

Paulo Fonseca remains, at the moment, Milan’s plan B. The Rossoneri management received more than positive feedback from Lille on his management of the squad, the development of talents and the relationship with the fans.

They like him because he already knows the Italian league, he plays football similar to that of Pioli (which would mean no revolution needed on the market) although more balanced, he is good at working in a group and has good communication skills.

Another interesting bit of background involves a meeting in recent days between Geoffrey Moncada and Flai Ramadani to discuss a multi-year renewal for Luka Jovic, and Maurizio Sarri’s name also came up.

It remains to be understood what the owners think of the former Napoli and Chelsea coach. However, the feeling is that Milan have not yet narrowed down the list of candidates to two or three names names, instead the evaluations are more wide-ranging.

  1. Keeping Pioli has suddenly become a good option.

What an awful list of candidates.
Why not trying with Hansi Flick, Lucien Favre or Christopher Galtier. All of these names had great success building teams, have CL experience and improved their squad individually and collectively.

  2. So did Conte at Hotspurs before he left. Any coach can have a bad season, more importantly how does he perform over a period of time. Klopp had a terrible 22/23 season…do we write him off for that. Sarri deserves a look in, because he has clear ideas and his teams always play a certain style which might be good for a confused and directless Milan side that we have seen recently.

    1. Or his style might just be a problem for him since it is extremely rigid which is not really the trend anymore.

    2. What I’m afraid of is that he doesn’t have kid gloves, so dealing with Leao is going to be tricky. A tough coach would probably send him home pouting and wanting to transfer away after a few weeks.

  3. Sarri are better than fonseca & concecau. He is recomended by arrigo sachi too . Prefer atacking style not defensive like conceicau

  4. Sarri has experience with massive clubs and he’s Italian. Conceiçao is a big risk, while Fonseca is a zero.
