CM: Napoli enter race for midfielder on a free as Milan have ‘other priorities’

By Isak Möller -

Houssem Aouar has been linked with a summer move to AC Milan over the past few months, as his contract with Lyon is about to expire. However, league rivals Napoli have now also joined the race.

Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are working with a smaller budget than most top clubs and are thus always looking for opportunities on the market. Aouar, the Lyon star, is one of them but the competition isn’t exactly lacking.

According to Calciomercato.com, the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt and Real Betis have made offers to Aouar. Roma have held more than one conversation with the player’s entourage and the same goes for Milan.

However, as things stand, Maldini and Massara seemingly have ‘other priorities’. This has opened up the opportunity for Napoli to join the race, as the Partenopei are looking for an attacking midfielder.

Aouar is in no rush to decide his future and will pick the best project for his career, the report concludes, but it should also be known that the commission and salary demands are significant.

  1. Oh well, another one bites the dust.
But i like how they throw in the excuse there “Maldini and Massara are working with a smaller budget than most top clubs’.
Well, the competition for Aouar, according to this article, is Napoli, Frankfurt, Betis, Roma. None of them has a bigger budget than Milan. What they do have is the ability to sell some of their own players, to create higher budgets for themselves.
Also, you pay commissions and salary even when you buy a player who is still under contract. At least you don’t have to pay a transfer fee with free agents.
And let me guess, the other priorities are buying out Brahim, who has been at Milan for 3 years and would play 1 good game every 3 months.
This smells like when Kolo Muani was offered for free
but Maldini and Massara had other priorities, Origi.

    1. Kolo Mauni wanted to play in Germany. Had nothing to do with Maldini and Massara. They had zero chance of signing him no matter how free or cheap he was at the time. The player literally only wanted Germany but go ahead and blame M&M for every transfer you deemed doable

      1. “According to the agent, Milan were offered the chance to sign Kolo Muani who moved to Eintracht Frankfurt from Nantes in the summer, but Massara had his heart set on a move for Divock Origi and in fact chose to conclude the deal with the former Liverpool striker.”

“Milan didn’t want to sink decisively for the player. He was proposed ahead of the summer on a free. It was February/March, but if you don’t close quickly, these opportunities vanish,” he said (via RadioRossonera).

Yeah, it sounds like he only wanted to play in Germany and nowhere else, according to @IKWYDLS.
Nothing to do with Maldini and Massara, he said.
They had ZERO CHANCE, he said, but he was literally offered to Milan.

        1. “Cheikh Fall, a market intermediary who among his latest operations has that of intermediary in the negotiation that brought Thauvin to Udinese, spoke to TMW and revealed some background on Kolo Muani.

“Milan were there, they tried. But the boy wanted to go to Germany. He wanted to try the German league because of the spaces due to his characteristics. Milan, however, did everything,” he said.”

Nuff said. He wanted to go to Germany…so thats why I said we had zero chance.. what are you going to do? Rename Italy to Germany? Invade Germany?

The player wanted to go Germany. He didn’t want to play here. Nuff said. What exactly do you want them to do? Rename italy Germany? Invade Germany?

            walked away from Kolo

            to bet on Origi

Whoever you wanna believe it’s up to you.
If they decided against signing him even though he was offered, then it was a bad decision.
If the player would rather play in Frankfurt and Germany instead of Milan it means that Maldini has zero pull when it comes to convincing players to sign with Milan, because he is one of many players that turned down signing with Milan under Maldini for lesser clubs including Thauvin BTW

        3. Same Oliver Fisher who wrote what I just had in quotes. So we both have incomplete and contradictory information from the same source. Either we walked away or Kolo didn’t want to come. You can believe what u want to believe.. my point was this isn’t FIFA or FM, you can’t just sign players you wish even if your name is Maldini. A
There are many reasons or motivations for signing when and where.

Also, Thauvin wanted more money which was evident in his interview afterwards when he ended up at Tigres. One of a few french players in the Mexican league at the time. And nows he’s at Udinese lighting up Serie A by storm. Oh wait, nvm…

  2. I can bet my left balls that there is money laundering going on in milan, cus how do you explain not grabbing quality players who are out of contract only to spend on players who ain’t event same quality as the free transfers?

    The whole transfer is sickening

  3. Ahhh yeah other priority’s…. Because the 10’s we have now are doing so brilliant. Absolute joke but when you hate you are called a “Maldini hater” now these are just facts. I get we can’t buy Ziyech but Aour would make a instant impact

    1. “Ahhh yeah other priority’s…. Because the 10’s we have now are doing so brilliant.”

Was about to comment this as well. Yeah, let’s ignore the #10 spot this summer and next year we can enjoy Krunic as the trequartista and wonder why we only score once every three matches.

  4. Not signing Aouar on a free is criminal. “other priorities” – LOL. Ya cause signing a 24 year old starting center mid for FREE is a horrible idea 🤪🤪🤪 LOLOLOLO. WTF

  5. So we have “other priorities” rather than signing a perfect 3rd quality CM that we desperately need on a free? Wow.

  6. It is like past . AC Milan offered by enzo fernandez agent to sign his client 18m euro but AC Milan have other priority renato sanchez that more cheap 10m euro . Six month later enzo price up and benfica gain big money 110m euro while renato become PSG benchwarmer with price only 15m euro
