CM: The sliding doors moment when Milan dropped Kamada for Loftus-Cheek

By Isak Möller -

Ruben Loftus-Cheek arrived at Milan at the end of June and the Englishman has been an important player for the Rossoneri so far. However, the management also considered signing Daichi Kamada instead.

Following the sacking of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara, the negotiations for Loftus-Cheek and Kamada were both put on hold. The new management then decided to only complete one of the operations, weighing the pros and cons of the two.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, Milan eventually dropped the pursuit of Kamada to sign Loftus-Cheek as they felt he would fit the 4-3-3 system better. They were certainly right as the 27-year-old has had a very good start to the season. A sliding doors moment for the Rossoneri, in other words.

However, as the report concludes, not even the management and Stefano Pioli expected the player to do so well so quickly. Against Roma last night, he was the MOTM as per Gazzetta Dello Sport and his role as the box-to-box midfielder has been a success so far.

Milan paid just €15m plus bonuses for the player, per the report, and that’s looking like a bargain.

  1. Hope he continue to do well, we have seen English players exploding in the beginning then dipping in form like tomori, smalling, Abraham!

  2. He’s the perfect replacement for Kessie.

The midfield three do have a nice contrast.

Krunic sits and keeps it simple.

Loftus-Cheek is a true box to box.

Reijnders provides some technical details quality.

    I like it.

  3. First real test is in 2 weeks. Giving too high praises for beating mediocre teams is a press thing, but real thing is showing it against top players. Hope it continues against Inter.

    1. Quite a negative approach, sure teams look easy once you have beaten them, but Inter is a good team no doubt but you only get 3 points for beating them just like beating Bologna.

I think we should be praising Pioli and the management for the way they have both planned and executed the plan with 10 signings and an exceptional mercato. They have built an excellent base to which we can add 1 or 2 €30m players every transfer window.

If Pioli can get JOVIC back to his best, we can challenge most, nobody was overwhelmed when we got Giroud, so let’s hop the lads can welcome JOVIC and get him to fight for the team.

      1. I like your first sentence. In the end the scudetto is not decided always by big games. Last season our demise was dropping too many points against subpar teams.
I also like to add that while Bologna, Torino and current Roma are far from stellar, these are teams that caused us a lot of trouble last season. I think it’s clear that our team has improved.

    2. If based on the players actually Roma is a top team also, in Italy… they finished last season at 6th post, and they still have most of the players.

Even if we end up in defeat against Inter doesn’t mean the transfer is bad, as long as we showed our own game, continuing what we have done in first 3 matches.

But I’m optimistic we can get 4th win against Inter.

  4. Yes Loftus cheek will be amazing ,my only concern was his fitness…He is looking an absolute star buy ,perhaps the best since Olivier Giroud.
Yes Loftus fits in perfectly for the system we appear to be using …great thing is he will also score goals .
So yes well done Loftus .

  5. Excellent player, his performance is not surprise, he was really top level before his injury and afterwards he just didn’t got the opportunity.
If he remains fit he will be our best midfielder. Huge pity we didn’t see him next to Tonali. A midfield trio with these 2 and Benacer would have been a dream.

  6. Title is misleading. The content of the article and title dont go hand in hand. We didn’t drop one for the other as the content says (as opposed to the title). Old management wanted RLC too. They simply dropped pursuit of Kamada

    1. Whoever wants to be misled, will be misled, no matter what.
It doesn’t matter at all, but RLC was indeed Maldini’s choice, every one knows this. New management almost call it off and went back to it after Tonali’s sell. Rightly so.
It’s so stupid that people think that old and new management was so different. Most of the newcomers were on the list anyways.

      1. uh huh everything would’ve been the same with Paldini, thats why he spent 8 weeks negotiating with CDK compared to us getting everything done before 31st July this year

but ofc Paldini fanboys wont see it

        1. Dude the shameful term that you use for the GOAT is just disrespectful. For someone who is synonymous with the clubs name deserves a lot better than this😞😞😞😞

          1. Dude Boulden is a tool. He’s no Milan fan. U can criticize the work done but u don’t disrespect the person and mame that is Maldini. All he does is troll ppl who don’t agree with him, makes up stuff and put words in your mouth to make the narrative suit him
