CM.it: Midfield changes beckon for Milan – the targets and possible sales

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan are set to undergo more midfield changes in the summer despite bringing in three new players for that position in the 2023 summer transfer window.

As reported by Calciomercato.it, there will be a change in midfield but it is not going to be a revolution to the same level as last summer.

It is clear that one new midfielder will be arriving at the club, as there is a need for a proper defensive midfielder who can help out the defence more effectively than those that are currently at the club.

A whole host of names have been linked with Milan for this role, with Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana being one of them. He may cost more than Milan would like, and he is more likely to go to the Premier League. For the same reasons, they may not be able to sign Khephren Thuram.

There are two profiles in the Premier League who have just one year on their contracts. There is Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Manchester United’s Sofyan Amrabat who is expected to return to Fiorentina from his loan.

There is a very real chance that Ismael Bennacer will leave the club this summer, with interest from the Premier League and Saudi Arabia. Yacine Adli could also be sold if the right bid were to come in, which would then mean two midfielders have to be signed.

        1. People like Amrabat because of that one time for his national team in a wc.. apart from that he has been average, more or less. Not that hard to shine a bit in a club like fiora. He never had a really strong season there tho. And now at United he flopped.. and united is far from a strong club atm. Their midfield is meh

      1. This is how it goes. Hjobjerg>kurnic>amrabat

Anyone who thinks, even for a second, that amrabat is a better defensive midfielder than hjobjerg should just stop watching football and focus on handball or something. Easier sport to understand i recon. Or volleyball. Or diamond league.

        1. Amrabat is 10 times better than hojberg in everything defensively and offensively Amrabat is bad-a*s player if he get proper couch

          1. If that was true he would’ve left Italy years ago. Yet nobody ever wanted him.. overrated baldy

Also are you implying ten hag isn’t a good couch?

  1. For some odd reasons know to the Milan hierarchy alone, we don’t go for the obvious transfers that directly solves the problem we in the transfer market for, rather we see the solutions and regularly go for unknowns and go back to look for solutions. It’s beats me everytime.
Just sign Hojbjerg for the DM so we can move on.

    1. What have you seen out of him to suggest he would be good in those roles? He’s inconsistent. I don’t even know what one role he is really good at.

      1. He’s young and it was his FIRST year playing as a DM – so yes of course he was inconsistent. Patience my friend patience. He has the talent (creativity, vision, passing, flair, size) and passion for the club and wants to improve and has the right attitude. Why would we sell him for what like 10M or so?? What will that get us besides another young prospect. Makes zero sense to me. This is a player you develop and if we do he will reward you in spades. Anyone can be taught how to defend – just look at Theo from when he first came to now – but you cannot teach Vision and creativity. You either have it or you don’t.

        Patience brother patience.

          1. Is 24 not young.
I don’t get, what’s the metric for a young football player.

Or are we now using the Barca system of teenagers as the given. Last I remembered that was the exception..

          2. Yes, 24 is not young. It’s a young human, but in football years, that’s when players are hitting their prime.. 24-29 are supposedly prime years for athletes.

He has been playing professional football for years not and has over 150 professional games under his belt.. is that young?

          3. When you consider the amount of games he played in a top league at the position we employ him in, he is the equivalent of a 20 year old. He also didn’t get much playing time since we signed him at our club. When we puf Krunic back in we lost those games that took us out the CL and race for the title. He will reach peak fitness next year or full maturity the one after. His skillsets and his mentality cannot be taught. He can be excellent once we give him opportunities to play and grow further.

          4. funny enough both games we lost in cl Krunić was not to be blamed(everyone played like poo).. even funnier both cl games we won Adli did not play.. Go fiure

  2. Adli probably will not be sold. He did excellent job and Milan can upgrade him more for future sale.
Bennacer, on contrary from text, is big probability to be sold. He has huge salary, and he dropped in form. Even for 30 or 25 million Milan would capital gain. And Ruben Loftus could be deployed as central midfielder.
If Milan buy proper strong quality defensive midfielder than Bennacer sale would be huge success

  3. Fofana cost 20-25m euro . Kephren cost 50m euro . Amrabat under 20m euro same with pierre . It is already obvious manajement will choose the cheapest

  4. Bids for Bennacer and RLC should seriously be considered. I hope Milan would bring back Brescianini and focus on signing Samuele Ricci for DM position.

A midfield trio consisting of Reijnders-Pobega, Ricci-Brescianini and Musah-Adli seems solid.
