Di Marzio reveals Udinese star was ‘one step away’ from joining Milan

A lot has changed on the mercato since AC Milan decided to sack Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara. In fact, several deals were in the pipeline and one of them involved Udinese star Roberto Pereyra, a journalist claims.

The decision to sack Maldini and Massara came as a shock to most and since then, CEO Giorgio Furlani and Chief Scout Geoffrey Moncada have taken over operations. As a result, they have also ‘killed’ some of the negotiations that were ongoing.

Ruben Lofuts-Cheek is one example, as he was just one step away from the club, and another is Roberto Pereyra. According to Gianluca Di Marzio (via Francesco Nasato), the Udinese man would have been ‘one step away’ from Milan if the duo hadn’t been sacked.

The attacking midfielder’s agent, Federico Pastorello, had been at Casa Milan several times to discuss the matter and a deal was seemingly close. This past season, the 32-year-old got five goals and nine assists for Udinese.

It would have been a signing that could have helped Milan in the present, but not so much in the future given Pereyra’s age.
