GdS: Milan and fellow Serie A side set for post-season friendly in Australia

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan and AS Roma are set to face each other in a friendly at the end of the 2023/24 season in Australia, in what appears to be a slightly unconventional move for both clubs.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan News), the two Serie A giants are expected to face each other in Perth, Australia, potentially on May 31.

The final day of the Serie A season is set to be May 26, earlier than last season, thanks to their not being a World Cup midway through the campaign.

The two teams would then not have long before jetting off to Perth for a friendly that might be at the Optus Stadium in Perth. With many of the Milan squad expected to be playing at Euro 2024 in Germany, they may wish that this time was used to recuperate and see their families rather than play a match on the other side of the world.

The Europa League final is going to be played on May 22 and both Milan and Roma hope to be in it, although teams like Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen are serious contenders to make it all the way to the final which takes place in Dublin.

  1. Why in the world would either Roma or milan want to fly half a world away to Down Under to play a friendly shortly after a long season just ended???
