GdS: Predicted XIs for Sassuolo vs. Milan – Pioli opts for heavy rotation

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is set to continue his trend of heavily rotating before a European game as multiple changes are predicted for today’s game against Sassuolo.

Mike Maignan is struggling with fatigue and will thus miss the game, which means that Marco Sportiello is in line to make his third start for Milan. Tommaso Pobega and Pierre Kalulu are the other absentees.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) reports this morning that Pioli will name a back four of Alessandro Florenzi, Simon Kjaer, Malick Thiaw and Theo Hernandez in front of Sportiello.

In midfield Yunus Musah and Yacine Adli are tipped to get the start in the double pivot, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek playing in the more advanced role.

Samuel Chukwueze should play on the right wing with Rafael Leao on the left, and Luka Jovic is down as the man to lead the line.

That means Milan will be able to call upon the likes of Tijjani Reijnders, Ismael Bennacer, Christian Pulisic, Olivier Giroud and Noah Okafor off the bench.

Predicted Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Sportiello; Florenzi, Kjaer, Thiaw, Theo; Musah, Adli; Chukwueze, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Jovic.

Predicted Sassuolo XI (4-2-3-1): Consigli; Toljan, Erlic, Ferrari, Doig; Racic, Henrique; Defrel, Thorstvedt, Lauriente; Pinamonti.
