Sampdoria 1-3 Milan Women: Rossonere extend winning run in relegation play-offs

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan Women extended their winning run to four games as they managed to beat Sampdoria by three goals to one earlier today. The Rossonere are significantly ahead of the other relegation teams, but the season has still been disappointing.

Today’s game was the final one in the first round of the relegation play-off, with the bottom five sides taking on each other twice to determine the outcome. Milan won all of their first four games against their opponents and now sit comfortably in ‘first place’ with 33 points.

In any case, the Rossonere did well to claim all three points earlier today as Kamila Dubcova and Evelyn Ijeh got on the scoresheet. The latter bagged a second-half brace and thus sealed the deal, clinching a well-deserved win.

After the turmoil at the start of the season, Milan have found some stability and it will be interesting to see if Davide Corti will remain as the manager next season as well. Although the recent record has been very positive, we cannot draw too many conclusions from the relegation play-offs.

Keeping Maurizio Ganz for as long as Milan did was a serious mistake, but it’s also clear that some signings could be needed to compete with the big teams. It could be an interesting summer, with Kosovare Asllani also set to depart.
