Sia recalls progress with the Primavera and lifts lid on Abate as a coach – video

By Oliver Fisher -

Diego Sia has revealed what it is like to work with Milan Primavera head coach Ignazio Abate, and commented on the recent run of difficult results the team have had.

Sia established himself as one of the most promising Primavera players last season and he continued that excellent form into the 2023-24 campaign, with 27 total appearances and eight goals scored.

He has been among the most reliable across all competitions and he is admired for his flexibility given he can play both wings and down the middle.

Sia gave a short interview on Milan TV in which he talked about the season so far, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

On the draw with Roma: “A good point because they are a very strong team. We need to improve in front of goal because there have been plenty of opportunities but with work I think we will be able to fill this gap.”

On the team’s moment: “In recent weeks we have worked a lot on ourselves to rediscover the spirit that we had lacked in the last few games. I believe it is something that will come back in our favour over time. The important thing is to give 100% in training and then we transmit it calmly on the pitch.”

On working with Abate: “I have a great relationship with the coach, I’ve known him for a few years. Every single day he pushes me to improve myself more, to put in more and more malice: every training session helps me to improve myself more and more.”

On the experience in the Primavera: “Last year I entered the race and thanks to my team-mates I immediately adapted. In recent months I have changed many roles but for the good of the team I have done them all in the best possible way. I am satisfied even if the scoring phase could be improved. I prefer to play left wing but anything is fine, wherever the coach wants me to play.”

On the championship: “It’s getting to the heart of things. All the teams want to stay at the top. Sunday [against Cagliari] will be a very difficult match and on a difficult pitch but we are preparing it well and we are calm to bring home the three points.”
