Tuttosport: Two targets identified as Milan plan to add defensive element to midfield

By Isak Möller -

In the summer, AC Milan are expected to make some reinforcements and one of the priorities appears to be a midfield signing. As has become clear, the Rossoneri could use a more defensive-minded player in the tandem.

Milan have conceded way too many goals this season and while the defence hasn’t been at its usual best, the department hasn’t been helped by the midfield either. The departure of Franck Kessie is still haunting the Rossoneri and therefore, in the summer, a defensive midfielder could arrive.

According to today’s edition of Tuttosport, as cited by MilanNews, Milan have set their sights on three players for that role. In addition to Sofyan Amrabat who’s currently on loan at Man Utd, the Rossoneri are also keeping tabs on Renato Veiga (Basel) and Walace (Udinese).

The technical director Geoffrey Moncada and his scouting department have been to watch Veiga several times already, impressed by his abilities at just 20 years of age. Walace is older at 28, but he knows Serie A very well and has been a consistently good midfielder for Udinese.

It seems likely that a lot will depend on Milan’s striker pursuit, as a big chunk of the summer budget will be dedicated to that position.

  1. Amrabat seems like a no brainer to me.
He is proven both internationally and in Italy.
He is in his prime and can slot straight into our midfield.
He has 1 year left on contract and is coming off a difficult season, so he won’t cost the earth.
    What’s the doubt?
Get him signed up asap and ready for pre-season

    1. I would also say, it’s great to sign bright young players bot for economic and football reasons, but it is necessary to have senior players also.
We can’t spend every season waiting on young guys to mature and then sell them when they do

      1. Yes and yes. We need a good DM and we need to be immediately competitive. Signing developing 20 year olds is great, but we need to sprinkle in experience. We already have Musah as the young promising CM. Get us Amrabat or Walace please.

  2. We are signing a defensive midfield that’s Good but let’s take out pobega and let’s remember that we need to add to two attacking midfield thats our main issues that needs to be resolved

  3. I really like Amrabat, that said
-a he won’t cost less than 20 mill, and possibly 3.5 -4 mill salary
-b we’ll have a lot of competition so either we need to move fast or bid higher
-c playing Amrabat (aka undisputed starter) will take a lot of playing time from other players, so if coach/ management has high hopes for Musah/Adli/Pobega that needs to be taken into account and someone sold/loaned.
Fiorentina refused to resign Torreira because they had hopes for Amrabat
