News from United States all but confirms Milan’s decision on Barcelona loanee

In case there were any doubts about what AC Milan’s plans are for the future of Sergino Dest, news has come from the United States which makes it clear.

The USMNT official website confirms that 23 players have been called up to represent them in the first ever Allstate Continental Clásico where the USA will take on archrival Mexico on April 19 in Glendale, Arizona.

The squad features 10 players from the USMNT’s successful run at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, but it is mostly a youthful squad as nine of them have less than five senior appearances for the national team.

Due to the fact the games falls outside of the designated international calendar, clubs are not required to release players for national team duty, yet Milan have released Sergiño Dest to play in the game.

This clearly shows that Stefano Pioli sees no use for him, and Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) confirm that the full-back will return to Barcelona at the end of this season because Milan will not pay the €20m option to buy him from Barcelona.

  1. If that so then why not cut his loan short? As far as I know if it’s a loan then there’s no repercussion if we cut it short and the player return to parent club, we won’t need to pay his salary too.

Kindly tell me if I’m wrong.
