CM: Broja ends Chelsea goal drought – the background on Milan’s interest

By Oliver Fisher -

Armando Broja was one of the names that AC Milan tried for during the summer transfer window but now he seems to have forged a role for himself at Chelsea again.

Calciomercato.com recall that Broja’s last goal for Chelsea before last night was just under a year ago, 360 days to be precise against Wolves where he came off the bench and scored in the final few minutes of a 3-0 win.

Yesterday he scored the second goal for Chelsea in their 2-0 victory against Fulham and it was a rather fortunate one as Tim Ream kicked it against him while he was closing down, but it was a good way to sweep away the memory of those 10 long months out following the rupture of his cruciate ligament.

Mauricio Pochettino chose to field him from the first minute with Nicolas Jackson suspended and Christopher Nkunku injured, and the Albania international certainly responded well.

Milan tried for him in summer 2022 when Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara were looking for a striker and they had some contact with the player’s entourage, but then the bad injury put a stop to everything.

During the summer his name was linked again when the idea was to sign a deputy to Olivier Giroud, but the decision was made to focus on Mehdi Taremi and then other targets. Now Broja can be Pochettino’s extra weapon, as the first alternative to Jackson.
