CorSera: The money on the line for Milan in the Champions League

By Euan Burns -

The Champions League is the most financially lucrative club competition in football and going deep into it can transform a club’s finances.

As highlighted by Corriere della Sera (via Milan News), there is a lot of money on the line tonight when AC Milan take on Borussia Dortmund at San Siro.

If Milan lose this game and Paris Saint-Germain are victorious in Paris against Newcastle, then the game is up for the Rossoneri. They will be going into the Europa League at best, and potentially out of Europe altogether.

If Milan can progress, though, they stand to earn around €20m. That figure takes in UEFA prize money, increased revenues from sponsors and extra ticket sales for Champions League nights.

Whilst being an excellent sporting achievement, it would also mean that there is more money in the bank for the January transfer window where Milan need a new centre-back and a left-back at least.
