AC Milan loanee Divock Origi has not had the most fruitful spell with Nottingham Forest, and as a result, it seems that the former Liverpool striker will not have done enough for the Midlands club to re-sign him next season.
The recent history of Origi’s career is unfortunate. He once was a player who was well thought of, but now he consistently struggles for minutes, which was the case at Milan and is now the case with Forest.
As a result, Belgian paper DH (via Sport Witness) has suggested that Nottingham Forest are unlikely to re-sign the striker next season, given his current spell of minutes is due to Chris Wood’s injury.
As such, the Rossoneri will have to start looking for potential suitors for the Champions League winner. In January, there was a lot of interest from America, which means he could end up there. It is unlikely Milan will keep him around due to his high wage compared to his value, both market-wise and to the squad, which makes a move likely, and America seems the most obvious destination for him.
In January, the Diavolo were seeking €5million, so this figure may likely be similar in the summer for any interested parties.

Any team paying 5 M Euro for Origi is crazy. Hopefully the Americans are stupid enough to sign him. Origi is one of the worst players I’ve ever seen playing. He is completely useless, and also injury-prone. It’s mind-boggling that Milan got fooled into signing him with the excuse that it was a free transfer, but also, including a long contract with extremely high wages that are in no way commensurate with his complete lack of footballing skills. If someone offers 500 K Euros I’d sell him fast; at least we’d avoid paying his wages.
Yes, but the problem is he won’t leave. He’s on €4 million a year. As we saw at Liverpool, he has no ambition, he only plays for money. He’s going to be very difficult to shift. If his contract is terminated, we have to pay out his salary. An utterly boneheaded decision to sign him.
He actually had a good game for forest yesterday. He played against man united and turned the whole defence and midfield inside out. He really did well. I genuinely think a team in the MLS can get some good games out of him. But of course the salary is a problem. But he isn’t useless from what I watched.
There is no question he has the ability to do that – he is a cult legend at one of the most decorated clubs in the game, but his desire isn’t there. But not a criticism, by the by.
I remember reading a really good, long article a few years ago (wish I could find it) about players who are quite happy to treat being a footballer like a job. Turn up to training every day, ready to be called upon when they are needed, but zero interest in being under the spotlight twice a week. To be honest I kind of admire him for it.
He came from a league where 4m a year for a bench warmer is not unusual, so it’s our fault for paying it.
