Gabbia disappointed as Milan’s unbeaten run ends: “These defeats hurt”

By Isak Möller -

Following the disappointing defeat against Monza, Matteo Gabbia spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on the matter. AC Milan had the chance to go second in the standings and the defender admitted that they didn’t do well.

A lot of the Milan players received poor scores in our player ratings this evening, but Gabbia managed to escape with a decent 6/10. The defender’s colleague Malick Thiaw, on the other hand, struggled big time and was given a 3.5/10.

Speaking to MilanTV after the game, as cited by MilanNews, Gabbia shared his thoughts on the nine-game unbeaten run (in Serie A) coming to an end. He stated that ‘these defeats hurt’ but also made it clear that Milan need to shift focus to the Europa League immediately.

On the result…

“We didn’t do well, but we gave everything and it was bad to lose like this, these defeats hurt, we are aware of it, but the season is still long.”

Next game…

“We know that we will take to the field immediately on Thursday and we want to put this bad step aside, we are sorry because we were winning a lot of games. It’s part of football to lose, now we will have to work better at Milanello to get back to doing well in the Europa League and in Serie A.”

Milan will indeed take on Stade Rennes next and after winning 3-0 in the first leg, they should make it to the round of 16. However, today’s result was certainly a knock to the confidence and it remains to be seen how the Rossoneri will respond.

  1. Tell your defensive partner to F off. He was a burden on the team tonight. Also, tell Samuel Chukwueze to get ready to leave for Bournemouth because that’s the level he is at. No talent.

Tell Adli, last chance is over. Byebye.

Tell Pioli, his time is over too. He wasted too much time on the abovementioned folks.

  2. Gabbia too agressive at CB. Hes not nesta level yet. Very risky choice to put this duo at the back for pioli.

    Another wrong decision:

    1. Play Thiaw for starting XI after 3 months absence. The player need some time atmosphere or adapt from the game. Pioli should play Kjaer to partner with Gabbia for sometime.

    2. Why change Adli who have good performance at first half with reijnder?? Hes no effect for the 2nd half.

  3. Rule of thumb, take care of business today, worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Play your best 11, put your foot on their throat, once you break them, plenty of time for substitutions. This was 3 points we absolutely needed. Basically Pioli said we have no chance for the Scudetto so why worry about winning, we are in good shape for the Champions League. For any other athletes who read this post you know how fatigue seems to disappear after a great victory….

  4. You are supposed to use your best players to win you matches,Theo and thiaw, adli, all are average players and outside this worst game last night Leao is becoming too weak and zero seriousness in games, you don’t feel big when you are playing for the club when you haven’t achieved anything in your entire career like Cr7 and Leo.

  5. Definitely. Leao not serious to play last night. After his renewal, hes more lazy player on the pitch. The player like this never ever become superstar or proper to play for PSG. I think…
