MN: Milan predicted XI vs. Juventus – Square pegs in round holes

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan travel to Turin tomorrow to face Juventus, and a report has predicted the eleven which Stefano Pioli may elect to start the game, which includes some experimentation in defence.

Following Monday’s loss to Inter, Pioli now faces another challenge – a Juventus side that must win for any hope of reaching second place this season. Given the money available for finishing second place in the league, both managers will desire a final bit of success in their last dance.

As Milan News writes, Pioli is forced into making changes in defence on Saturday, with Fikayo Tomori, Theo Hernandez and Davide Calabria serving suspensions. As a result, Malick Thiaw will replace Tomori in central defence. Alessandro Florenzi replaces Theo, and Pioli will start Yunus Musah at right-back once again, even if the previous attempt was not positive.

The midfield trio will again remain the same, with all three aiming to show a better performance than they did against Inter at the start of the week. Finally, Pioli will revert to his attacking trident that has served him well this season: Christian Pulisic, Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud.

Milan probable XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Musah, Thiaw, Gabbia, Florenzi; Adli, Reijnders; Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Giroud.

  1. Like banging your head against a tactical wall that is Pioli…

How many aspirations do we need that Musah is neither a RW or a RB…

Almost like he’s setting it up to fail.

  2. Allegri is the type of defensive coach that is cryptonite to Pioli, he won’t try to score right away but will hold position and patiently wait for us to make a mistake.

We’ll be lucky if we get a draw with the current defense.

  3. At this point I think Pioli is doing intentionally this formation to take revenge for getting fired, there is no way a coach is so dumb to play Musah RB when you have Teraciano and Gimenez, also Thiaw is a completely disaster. But at this point I don’t think Pioli wants to win anymore

    1. jimenez is injured for at least the rest of april so he isnt currently an option for us,. I nevertheless disagree with piolis choice if he does field musah at the right back.

        1. Im fully with you there Dan, Musah should never be fielded as a right back and even though terraciano havent had the best start with us it certainly makes more sense giving him some minutes there instead.

    2. If that’s the case he should fired and replaced by Danielle Bonera for closing immediately after this match if the consequence of his rigidity is an avoidable loss; it’s only a mad man that do same thing every time and expect a different outcome.

Mr. Pioli has lost his mind indeed, the Scudetto euphoria ate up his reasoning box and he became arrogant, the beginning of his downfall.

    3. Thiaw a disaster? What are you on? He is young, he is strong and when fully fit his on the top pairing in the team. With a coach that actually knows what to do he would be amazing but with Pioli and haphazard tactics no one understands what he wants from them.

And if he was a disaster why would Ancelloti want him at Madrid next year?

  4. The Genius Case of Stefano Pioli.
Now he is going to use Musah as a RB. He has Terracciano on the bench who has played that position, but instead he will play a midfielder as a full back.
If he was tactically flexible he could have went with 3 men defense and play Florenzi and Terracciano in their preferred positions as wing backs, but nope.

          1. Ok, no worries nedley. In the end if jimenez was fit id also rather field him or terraciano there instead of musah who who clearly doesnt work there in my view as well. He is pretty much a liability at the rb even though i have nothing against the player or the man he should be fielded in the midfield centrally when fielded..

  5. Just draw already lucky for pioli squad . Terraciano can play RB but pioli choose to play yunus musah out of position as RB . Why play giroud , he will go to MLS , why not play okafor or camarda ?

  6. Martin bernhard . you said kangkung and resurr is same user and fan of caldara . yes thats me . but now you look at pioli what the heck he want to pick musah for rb position when we have teracciano at this position . thats why i said this coach is crazy and not unfair to some players.

  7. Recipe for disaster, Einstein said only a fool would do the same thing over and over again and expect a different result.
Let RLC move to midfield or stay out in starting, while pulisic plays the man behind the striker, also giroud should be replaced with okafor, who is hungrier, while Chucks starts on the right, the best form of defence is attack, if we can have the ball mostly in juve’s half, our depleted defence would not be exposed too much
Don’t also forget, Mariani is the ref, a very uselesss, prejudiced official

  8. You know… I even dont want to comment. I think he should be fired effective immediately. Not a single youngster in the squad. Moron.

  9. Seriously Pioli, do you not learn,
Terracciano is Theo’s under study so play him when Hernandez is suspended!.

Giroud and RLC are horribly out of form.
    Play Okafor & Chuk!.

I’d this is really is his line-up then he needs to go now. Let someone else do the last 4 games. Someone with eyes.
