Pioli outlines what he expects from Milan: “We have to play a real, serious game”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli believes that his side are ‘concentrated’ and ready to face Genoa at San Siro this evening.

It will be a strange atmosphere after Curva Sud announced on Friday morning that they will be present at the stadium, but there will be no cheering, flags or banners in their section.

After the statement published, this is the second step of their protest against the management. Pioli admitted that it will be different without their support but stated that the players are fully focused on defending second place.

During the pre-match press conference, he also confirmed that it will be an attacking-minded XI and he has followed through with this. Samuel Chukwueze, Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao are all starting in the attacking trident.

Pioli spoke to DAZN a few minutes before kick-off, and his comments were relayed by MilanNews.

What faces did you see when you arrived here at San Siro?

“Concentrated, as they should be. We have an important match against an opponent who are doing good, who are calm. Sometimes serenity allows you to express yourself in the best possible way. So we are focused because we have to do well.”

Today there is no Gudmundsson…

“He is a quality player who has done very well, who varies a lot, can play between the lines and insert himself. However, Genoa are a team that hold the pitch well, take up good positions, have two attackers, one of whom is very fast and the other is very good in the area. We will have to be careful in our defensive phase.”

What do you expect from San Siro today?

“We have to play a real, serious game and try to win it. I’m sure our fans will support us when they see the right attitudes.”
