How Milan could line up vs. Juventus amid selection crisis – change in system possible

By Ben Dixon -

For better or for worse, AC Milan may again look to experiment with their system against Juventus due to a selection crisis that the team are suffering, a report has claimed.

There are several things to look at with frustration from Monday night’s loss against Inter, and the obvious points are clear. However, the additional frustrations are that Fikayo Tomori, Theo Hernandez and Davide Calabria will all serve suspensions against Juventus, as reported earlier – Calabria will also miss the game against Genoa.

As such, several changes will have to be made in defence, and Stefano Pioli may have to revert to a formation that he used at the peak of Milan’s injury crisis this season.

As our colleague Luca Maninetti reports on his X account, Pioli could opt for a three-defender formation, which would see Malick Thiaw and Matteo Gabbia either side of Primavera talent Jan-Carlo Simic, who played in this system earlier in the season.

Yunus Musah and Alessandro Florenzi would play as wing-backs in this scenario, and the 58-year-old would have to pick two midfielders from Tijjani Reijnders, Yacine Adli and Ismael Bennacer. The attacking trident would be the usual trio.

Alternatively, the formation could remain the same, with Musah and Florenzi coming in for the suspended full-backs, and it is imagined that Thiaw would likely replace Tomori in a back four.

    1. My thoughts too, I don’t see why you keep such a talent at the bench and not use him in rotation. Terracciano is a young n vibrant player give him his chancees use him he will grow, we didn’t buy him to fill up empty spaces. We need to do better, this season is gone. We just have to get it right next season!!!

    2. Whoever he decides to field, that’s his problem. He watched as his players misbehaved on the pitch, as if that was the last game of the season, in a match that they had already lost. I can’t imagine losing to Juve this weekend. That would put our second position on the edge.

    1. Are you serious… did you see the Youth League final, the second goal was all his fault for going on a dribbling and failing… and you want him to start against Juventus?

      SMH

      1. Umm yea I saw the match. Are u mixing up Simic with Nsiala? Because Simic was the one always out of position running upfield for god knows what reason. Even on that second goal he is the recovering CB sitting deeper than anyone else but he let Stalmach who is further up the field recover on defence before him…make that make sense. Plus Nsiala was thrown down on the ground by his own player (Stalmach) in the first place what would have otherwise been a very good dribble out of defence. Apart from that, throughout the game if you watched it, Simic was always moving out of position and upfield. First and third goal,. just look at the build up to those goals and tell me who has better defensive movements. On the their goal Simic was standing before he realized the cross was coming into the box and didn’t even made an attempt to head clear (other issue is also his height which he’s not compensating by having extra hops). On the first goal he’s late to getting into position…and also so deep he’s playing everyone onside….my biggest fear when he plays.
Tbh I don’t want either of them playing vs Juve, I’d rather have Florenzi or someone else there but if i had to pick….

Btw zero of these guys impressed including zeroli. The only exception is Camarda who was 16 and didn’t look out of place against 18&19 year olds

  1. If he plays Giroud again he means he may have an affair with him. He is detrimental to the team, does not keep a ball in his feet, he can score only with crosses. Both Okafor and Jovic are superior players. Most overrated player in Ac Milan squad.

  2. At this point does it matter anymore??

Play whomever you want to play sir Pioli and field whatever you want to field.

As to scarface, same to you ‘the world is yours’. Season is already over and no trophy to contend with, what does it matter anyway.
