MN: Predicted Milan XI vs. Roma – Tomori and Maignan to return

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan are expected to line up with both Mike Maignan and Fikayo Tomori back in the starting eleven against AS Roma in the Europa League on Wednesday.

As reported by Milan News, Stefano Pioli is going to have a stronger team available this time as Tomori is back from his suspension which ruled him out of the first leg at San Siro which ended 1-0 to Roma.

Maignan was absent for the 3-3 draw against Sassuolo at the weekend but he will be back to take the place of Marco Sportiello.

It is presumed that Matteo Gabbia will be partnering Tomori rather than Malick Thiaw, whilst both Simon Kjaer and Pierre Kalulu were not fit enough to train.

Davide Calabria and Theo Hernandez will be on the flanks, whilst Ismael Bennacer and Tijjani Reijnders are expected to start in the centre of midfield.

That means that the usual attacking quartet of Rafael Leao, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christian Pulisic and Olivier Giroud. There had been talk of Samuel Chukwueze starting on the right, Pulisic moving central and Loftus-Cheek then moving back into the midfield two at the expense of Bennacer.

That seems the only potential change to this probable Milan lineup to face Roma.

Milan predicted lineup vs Fiorentina (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Gabbia, Tomori, Hernandez; Bennacer, Reijnders; Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Giroud.

  1. I really do hope Gabbia starts.

It seems every time that someone else is healthy, Gabbia gets dumped by Pioli – only for that player to do poorly (Thiaw & Kjaer) and almost unwillingly, Pioli has to throw Gabbia back on and he does well.

Just start Gabbia for now. He’s been more consistent than any of our defenders this year, including Tomori. Right now, we need consistency.

    1. Does the commenter in here have some short memory problem? I’m pretty sure Gabbia was started in the first leg and Pioli put him on the bench against Sassuolo because he want him fresh for the 2nd leg.

Now you want Pioli to keeps playing Gabbia but if Gabbia got injured you will blame Pioli and asked for rotation.

  2. I hope we don’t play with inverted fullbacks we have stronger players on the wings and should exploit them. RLC positioning to me seems like a second striker and so our midfield always suffers. I hope Pioli plays him a bit closer to the midfield tomorrow. He is an AM and should also create chances rather than wait for them.

  3. Pioli if you are seeing this in all you do tomorrow please don’t start giroud up front while we have okafor and I also think Rlc should partner Tijjani in d middle of the park why Chuks pulisic nd leao should be behind okafor
